Adam Rude

Experienced Planner with a demonstrated history of working with the design industry. Skilled in GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, basic Website Development and Coding, and interfacing with members of the public. Strong community professional with a Bachelor of Science (BS) focused on Urban Planning and Development from Ball State University, with a minor in Computer Technology.

These two areas of focus, Community Planning and Computer Technology allow me to explore and develop new, unique solutions to problems in both fields. Providing unique technology and data-driven decision-making opportunities in the planning realm, and community-focused solutions in the technology spectrum. Director of Planning and Building Department | Dec. 2018 - Current

Serving as Director of the City of Shelbyville’s Planning and Building Department, Adam is responsible for overseeing various community development projects and administering local land use and building policies within the City of Shelbyville, including planning and zoning, code enforcement, and all applicable building codes. Working under the leadership of Mayor Tom DeBaun, Adam and his staff collaborate with other city departments to improve the quality of life of existing and future city residents while facilitating growth and investment in the community.

Deputy Planning Director | April 2016 - Dec. 2018

In my capacity at Shelbyville, I manage a majority of the current planning and zoning projects moving through the Planning and Building Department. Along with the current planning aspect, I am also involved in developing the planning and policy documents that guide decision making and private development within the City of Shelbyville. My roles also include managing state and federal funds that have been awarded to the City's Planning and Building Department.

Worked directly with clients to solve their computer related problems. Intuitive problem-solving skills were used on a daily basis to diagnosis possible hardware and software problems. Worked one on one with clients to teach them specific softwares skills that they could use later on in their careers.

I have been helping to administer income and community surveys in Indiana cities. The surveys help these communities to qualify for additional grants through both the state and federal government to fund large scale reinvestment and capital improvement projects.

Worked on a diverse array of project types and scales, ranging from smaller community plans to large multi-million dollar grant proposals. During my time at CHA I was constantly balancing my time between several different projects, each with its own independent timelines and due dates.
